Leinster Senior League (association football)
The Leinster Senior League is an association football league organised by the Leinster Football Association. The league (and its equivalents in the other provinces) is the highest level of football outside the Republic of Ireland football league system. Teams from this league compete in Ireland's key cup competitions including the FAI Cup, the FAI Junior Cup, and the FAI Intermediate Cup.
History
The Leinster Senior League was formed in 1896.[1] Predominately Dublin based, this was the senior league in what is now the Republic of Ireland, after the Irish Football League split in 1915 with Shelbourne and Bohemians joining. This supremacy was short lived with the formation of the League of Ireland, after partition, in 1921.[2]
